Fort Macon State Park
While studying here at Appalachian State, my interest in history and social studies not only grew but progressed into new levels of understanding. History is a meaningful subject that allows for individuals to reflect upon past events and how it compares to current situations. In doing this, new skills such as critical thinking, individual analysis, and differentiation are formed. These are valuable skills that can benefit someone in any position they might find themselves.
These skills are to be developed in a classroom community that contains a safe and beneficial learning environment for every student. I am looking forward to building this community!
I come from a small town known as Union Grove, North Carolina, and will graduate from Appalachian State University in December of 2024 with a master's degree in History & Social Studies Education, with a concentration in Teaching. I have learned a lot over my time here at Appalachian that has influenced my outlook on how certain concepts should be presented. With this, I developed my philosophy of teaching which involves engaging discussion and respect for different perspectives.
During my studies, I was acknowledged for my devotion and was invited into the National Teaching Honors Society, Kappa Delta Pi as well as the National History Honors Society, Phi Alpha Theta. These organizations allowed me to grow professionally as I was exposed to new opportunities that benefitted my development as an educator. I look forward to utilizing these skills in the school community to assist students in their academic achievements.
