Music Theory is an important part of this class. Singers must learn basic music theory skills. We will have a short theory lesson daily, and there will be quick quizzes and tests given through Breezin Thru Theory. This is an on-line testing site. Students will sign into their "classroom" and can complete assignments. They can get immediate feedback as they finish assignments. It also provides me with class data on each student so I can see where individuals are struggling.
Ear Training is the combination of both Sight Reading and Music Theory. Students will be able to listen to intervals and identify and write them. This is a difficult skill to work on, but it is a skill that makes for much stronger singers. The ear training website we will use is called Sightreadingfactory.com
Theory Basics is a document that will help you review all of the foundations you need to know in order to catch up if you feel like you are behind members of your class. Knowing the note values and the names of the notes on the grand staff are key to your success.
Video Tutorials are available at the attached links. These tutorials will go over all of the basics of letter names and rhythms as well as finding the key, the order of sharps and flats, and how to figure out what solfege syllables go with different pitches.
