FAQ

Home | Call for Collaboration | FAQ

  • What are the inclusion/exclusion criteria and representation requirements for data collection?

We encourage all teams to aim for representative samples of approximately 200 farmers or more. When submitting data, please provide information on participant recruitment methods. Participants must be at least 18 years old to streamline ethics approvals. All data collection will be conducted online using the Qualtrics survey link provided to collaborators.

  • Do teams have to plan for a fixed payment/incentive per participant?

We are not requiring or providing any incentives for the core survey. It is up to the teams to decide whether to include incentives to ensure their sample of 200 participants or not, as they’ll need to cover their own local data collection costs.

  • How will authorship be determined?

Authorship will follow APA guidelines, with higher positions given to contributors with greater intellectual involvement. The contribution will be project management, data analysis, study design contribution (intervention and policy proposals), data collection, and text writing and editing. Each team may have up to two authors, counted as a single unit of contribution.

  • What is the study design?

  • Who will be responsible for creating the videos for the survey?

The organizing team will adapt the suggested interventions into 30- to 45-second video treatments.

  • What is the study timeline?

Nov. 2024 | Call for Collaboration

Feb. 2025 | Announcement of the chosen intervention

May. 2025 | Pre-test, pre-registration, ethics

Sep. and Oct. 2025 | Data collection

Nov. onwards | Data analysis and paper writing

  • Do collaborators who collect data need ethics approval?

This depends on the regulations of each collaborator's home institution. The University of Göttingen will provide an umbrella ethics approval for the project. However, each team is responsible for verifying whether additional local ethics approval is required according to their institution's rules.

  • How long will the survey be?

The core survey will take approximately 15–20 minutes to complete.

  • Will the survey be conducted online?

Yes, the survey will be implemented through Qualtrics. Each team will be responsible for translating the main Qualtrics survey into the appropriate language.

  • Can I add additional questions to the survey?

Yes, teams may add supplementary questions at the end of the core survey, provided these additional questions are relevant to the project’s main topic and only extend the survey by a reasonable amount of time.

  • Do collaborators need to cover the costs of their own data collection?

Yes, teams signing up to collect data from a specific country should be prepared to cover the costs of the local data collection.

  • How can collaborators get access to the data?

All collaborators will be given priority access to the data. This means you can access the data before it is openly published online. To gain early access to the data, you will need to:

  1. Submit your planned analysis to the collaborator list (which we will provide)

  2. Share a copy of your preregistration with us (to ensure fairness for all).

We will begin accepting preregistrations once the main paper is accepted. If you have ideas for additional analyses or papers, please feel free to reach out here.

  • What types of emissions related to climate change does this study consider?

This study examines climate change mitigation, which requires reducing direct agricultural emissions, primarily nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) from fertilizer use, enteric fermentation in ruminant livestock, and manure management. Additional emissions arise from rice cultivation, crop residue burning, liming, and urea application. While soil carbon changes—from CO2 emissions and removals on agricultural land—are accounted for separately under the Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) category, this study also considers policies addressing emissions and removals linked to agricultural activities.

  • Will the questionnaire need to be translated into other languages?

Yes, each research team will need to translate the survey into the local language. We will ask teams to translate and back-translate each scale to ensure the items are translated correctly before running the study.

  • Would it be okay to reach more than 200 farmers?

Absolutely! We aim to gather a minimum of 200 farmers per country. However, you're welcome to collect a larger sample if possible. We understand that a larger sample size may be needed to ensure at least 200 usable responses.
