We are organizing a collaborative project to test interventions that encourage climate policy support among farmers in 2025. To do this, we will conduct an online survey experiment using consistent interventions and survey designs across countries participating in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
By joining this project, you will be listed as a co-author. Each participating team can contribute by:
Intervention Proposal: Suggesting interventions that can be adapted into a 30 to 45-second video to serve as a treatment. These interventions should target the dependent variable, “To what extent do you support the following climate policies?”
Policy Proposal: Recommending policies to compose the policy support segment. Suggested policies may include existing and new policies that target climate change mitigation.
Data Collection: Collecting data from farmers in your country. The contribution includes translating the survey into the local language, organizing and covering the local data collection costs, and ensuring a sample of approximately 200 farmers by the specified deadline. The survey will be conducted in Qualtrics, using our license.
Additionally, teams can choose to collaborate solely through data collection without proposing interventions or policies. This option allows more flexibility for participants who may prefer to focus on recruiting and surveying farmers in their country.
After reviewing all contributions, we will select the intervention and policies based on feasibility in an EU context, relevance for the dependent variable, theoretical support from prior work, and alignment with the project’s objectives.
In February 2025, we will reach out to all teams to present the selected ideas in an interactive workshop, and each team will have the opportunity to participate in the survey design process. While we look forward to incorporating a range of ideas, please note that the final decision on participation and contributions will be determined by the organizers to ensure alignment with the project goals.
Authorship will be determined using APA guidelines. Contributions including project management, data analysis, study design contribution (intervention and policy proposals), data collection, and text writing and editing will be considered for authorship order. This call is open to PIs, postdocs, and PhD students, and each lab may include up to two authors.
How to apply
Submit a brief statement of interest here by January 15, 2025. The statement should be no more than 2 pages, outlining the participants' information, the proposed interventions and policies with justifications, and a clear plan for collecting data from local farmers (i.e. if the team will use any type of payment/incentive per participant; if they will connect with an established network of farmers; if they will use a survey company). Moreover, if you are planning to collect extra data, please inform us in the statement of interest.
Project coordinators: The project will be coordinated by researchers from the University of Göttingen.
