This statement is the whole reason behind Conroe Junior Cotillion. Basically what we are all about.
And it sounds good... but what does it really mean?
Well, let us break it down for you, just so you truly understand and appreciate the VALUE of the Cotillion Experience. Here are some answers to real questions that we've been asked before, that you may also be curious about:
"Am I just paying so my daughter can go to four parties throughout the year?"
We want to reassure you, Conroe Junior Cotillion is so much more than just going to parties for our members. It may not be obvious at first, but our social events do offer an environment for learning and personal growth.
"What do we actually get from being in Cotillion?"
After going through Cotillion, you should be able to approach most social situations with less trepidation and more self-confidence. You should also be very comfortable practicing these specific and very sought after SOCIAL SKILLS: self-mastery, communication, social awareness and responsible choice. These skills are described in more detail HERE.
"How do we learn these SOCIAL SKILLS?"
These skills cannot be learned by sitting in class, by reading a book, or by watching a YouTube video. The only way to become really good at them so that they become second nature to you is through PRACTICE. We all know role-playing can be very awkward, so we don't even bother with that. We simply go ahead and immerse you in a real social event, but in an environment where you can feel safe. The more events you attend, the more practice you get.
"What is SHARED LEARNING?"
Shared Learning is when people in a group learn from each other through social interaction. As members, you all have different levels of social confidence and skill. When you are all together at an event, the more experienced members model the expected behavior for those who are maybe not as confident just yet. By doing it this way, there is always an example, unlike an event where all the members are in the same grade or skill level, and there is no one to show you what to do or how to act.
"What real-world social situations are you talking about?"
You will find yourself in many social situations after high school, some of them life-changing. An example would be a job interview, making new friends in college, or attending social events where you may potentially make important professional connections or even meet your future life partner. You never know who you might meet. You want to be poised and ready to make a good impression when the opportunity presents itself.
