The Ethology and Animal Welfare Study group, known as Etholiga, aims to promote knowledge and improve practices related to animal welfare.
Additionally, it seeks to encourage students to participate in scientific research and extension projects, fostering interaction between its members, professionals, and renowned researchers in the field.
The group also supports the exchange of experiences and contributes to the development of academic, scientific, and professional skills among undergraduate students, with the assistance of graduate students in organizing and executing activities.
During the academic semester, Etholiga organizes various meetings, including lectures, presentations of projects from Etholab, scientific article discussions, and theoretical-practical activities, such as group dynamics and games related to animal welfare.
They also conduct external visits to partner institutions, such as zoos, farms, and schools, including the Curitiba Municipal Zoo and the Newton Freire Maia Agricultural College. These visits aim to explore ethical and social issues, alternative farming systems, sustainable agriculture practices, and bioproduct reuse, promoting the integration of theory and practice while strengthening educational actions and expanding the understanding of issues related to animal welfare.
The meetings are held weekly and focus on fundamental concepts of animal welfare.
Additionally, the group organizes special events, such as workshops and courses led by distinguished professionals, which address current topics in both theoretical and practical ways, providing members with constant opportunities for updates in the field.
One of the group highlights is its encouragement of participation in scientific research projects, creating a collaborative environment where members, professors, and graduate students can analyze and discuss ongoing or published research.
This environment stimulates critical thinking, broadens knowledge in the field of animal welfare, and brings students closer to scientific routines. The League also promotes scientific presentations to prepare its members for conferences and other academic events, offering a safe and enriching space for learning.
