Service Learning project description; why I chose it:
For my EBP assignment, I researched and presented on how occupational therapy interventions can improve upper extremity function in individuals with rotator cuff injuries. I chose this topic because it is a common orthopedic issue that significantly impacts a person's ability to participate in meaningful occupations. My goal was to bridge research and practice to support effective, client-centered interventions.
Service Learning who benefited, company name, contact person, address:
This academic service learning project primarily benefited fellow OT students and educators by contributing to a classroom culture grounded in evidence-based care. While not linked to an external company, the research is applicable to outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, and home health providers who treat clients with rotator cuff injuries.
Facility: [Course-based project – no outside facility]
Service Learning reflection—how I felt; what I learned; how it will benefit my OTA career:
I felt empowered by the process of synthesizing research into something practical and applicable. I learned how to critically evaluate sources and communicate complex information clearly. This experience strengthened my confidence in using evidence to inform interventions and advocate for best practices, which is crucial in ensuring quality care and professional credibility as an OTA.
