If I had to sum up my professional mindset in one sentence, that line from the third edition of Kendrick Lamar's "The Heart" series provides the most accurate description. The sense of accomplishment and the fear of not achieving that feeling drives me in all that I do, from small tasks like writing a press release to larger-scale projects such as organizing and overseeing a league-wide food drive. It’s impossible to catch that euphoria every single time, but if I can do so more often than not, then I know that I successfully raised the standards for myself and my employer and helped build a legacy.
Thankfully, my professional career thus far has regularly brought me that feeling of accomplishment. At Allegheny College, I entered a new environment at the NCAA Division III level that forced me build time management skills and develop new ones such as graphic design and on-camera work, and attracted four of the school’s six largest non-football audiences over the school year for my baseball play-by-play commentary. At Robert Morris University, I managed media relations for three NCAA Tournament teams, collaborated with Old Hat Creative on a successful rebranding strategy and later became the department’s lead graphic designer, and was held in high enough regard by the Northeast Conference to be picked to participate on the voting panel for its Women’s Basketball All-Decade Team for the 2010s. And with the WPIAL, I completely overhauled the league website and launched an app, organized a food drive that raised over 325,000 meals in four years, achieved new highs in candidates for the league’s Scholar-Athlete Award, and brought visibility to underrepresented sports by producing detailed recaps and standings pages.
My 10-plus years in this business has allowed me to develop skills in media relations, strategic internal and external communications, online content creation, graphic design, branding and identity, social media management, feature writing, website administration, document design, marketing, event management, credential organization, history archival, and on-air commentating and hosting. I’m well-versed in applications for Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace, and – as a quick and eager learner – am always looking to expand my repertoire.
Outside of the professional realm, I am a husband of three-plus years to my wonderful wife, Danielle, a father to our son, Avery, and (clearly) an avid sports fan who supports the Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Cardinals, Tottenham Hotspur, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and the Robert Morris Colonials. I enjoy going to sporting events, concerts, and comedy shows, reading, traveling domestically and internationally, and finding a new restaurant or brewery to try.
