Bowen Therapy

Its the best I've felt in 10 years.....let Bowen rejuvenate you

The Bowen technique is a dynamic system of activating muscles and connective tissue therapy which was developed by the late Tom Bowen. It utilises small measured inputs to the body stimulating the body to heal itself. The Bowen technique offers tremendous benefits to clients with little effort from the practitioner but with profound results to both acute and chronic conditions. It does so holistically, by using the body's innate healing mechanisms. The practitioner delivers signal to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves) and the body does the rest, responding in its own time. Bowen technique is appropriate to use for individuals of all ages and all degrees of health. Bowen technique focuses on addressing the entire body by restoring via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of the bodily function and is very susceptible to external stressors. Most people live in some form of constant stress conscious or subconscious which over stimulates the ANS. Stress reductions after the nervous system changes from the sympathetic ( fight or flight) to the parasympathetic ( rest and digest) dominate post session.

Whats in a session:

During the session the client often becomes deeply relaxed and the peristalsis of the muscles. Both indicate a deep release of stress and a shift towards the parasympathetic dominate. Bowen therapy can have an incredible effect over the entire body with a few gentle purposeful moves to destress your body. The session can be 15 -45 minutes addressing the most present situation or to reset and revive the body.

What to wear:

Bowen therapy can be done over light clothing or directly on the skin to complete the Bowen moves. The body will be draped and kept warm during the session to make you feel comfortable and rested.

Bowen therapy History:

Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982) began to developing his technique in the 1950's in Geelong Australia. He became interested in ways to alleviate human suffering and began to notice that certain moves on the body had a particular effect. With no formal training he would often state that his work was a "gift from God". Over the years he refined his skills with the help of his friend and secretary Rene Horwood. Mr Bowen was extremely busy in his Geelong clinic performing approximately 13,000 treatments in a year, verified in 1975 by the Victorian Government inquiry into alternative health care professionals. In 1974 he met Oswald "Ossie"Rensch for the first time at the national Health Conference in Adelaide. Tom taught Ossie Bowen therapy and studied with him for the next 2 and a half years. With the assistance of Renee and Ossie they created the written format that students learn from today. In 1975 Ossie and his wife Elaine began utilising Mr Bowen's methods in their clinic in Hamilton in Western Victoria. Honouring Mr Bowen's request to teach his work after his death. The first Bowen techniques seminar was held in Perth in 1986. By 1990 Ossie and Elaine were teaching full time thought Australia and later to an International participants. Because the technique was os effective it had been widely embraced by a broad spectrum of people, health professionals are impressed by its effectiveness of the Bowen technique and the diversity of problems it addresses.
