This section has details for the first two features: a global search and access rights for students to be content authors for the course.
There are some search features in Canvas (web and mobile apps) currently but it needs to expand across all areas, including a global search.
A search icon (with a magnifying glass) will sit on the top right hand corner of the interface for both the web and for mobile apps.
Once you clicked on the search icon, there will be a search box for you to type in anything to search the entire course. Depending on the context, it will also have a filter option, whether it will filter for unread announcements, or new discussions, or page collections and so on.

There are two areas needing update:
Canvas currently allows courses with no term association to make it an open-ended course. It also allows a course to be publicly accessible, but content of these courses do not show up in search engines like the current Wordpress content does, so this could limit access.
These will be addressed in feature changes in other areas to allow customisation around public searches and participation.
After some considerations, I propose "Pages" to be the area to be opened up to allow students access as authors. This along with other features changes in the pages section will enable what needs to be done while allowing the instructors to maintain overall control of the course.
This will go along with an additional Canvas role: Student-contributors (or similar name) granting authoring access to Pages.
Next section will show changes on the Canvas Page area, it'd be a longer page than this one, with more images and a video.
