Reflection

The journey of exploring Mentimeter has been a great experience. The process of understanding Mentimeter from a user perspective, educator perspective, and market analysis perspective, has given me a moment of reflection on the fundamental value and background information of these Ed Techs. I chose to review Mentimeter because it has many qualities that supplement the dull and numb everyday online learning life of my senior year in university due to the pandemic. My first encounter with Mentimeter was in a physical classroom, which my professor used as an ice-breaker for the class. I vividly remember the novelness of answering a question through the Word Cloud function and seeing my answer pop up on the screen. Since then, it has not been quite popular and has frequently been used in any of my other classes. As we entered the online learning era during the pandemic, Mentimeter came up to my mind and I have been using it for my presentation and classes since then.

What impressed me the most is the versatility of their question types. Their basic question types, such as Word Cloud and Open-ended questions are undoubtedly handy for classroom presentations. The other novel functions recently added to their slide library, for instance, “slide the wheels” and “traffic lights”, allowed educators to further utilize Mentimeter in their classroom for various purposes. Besides word-based questions, it has been impressed with their multimedia templates and creative yet simplistic question types which encourage even younger learners (K-Primary school students) to easily get involved in a Mentimeter presentation. The way they can present the data has also been another notable highlight, either in percentages, numbers or graphs. It alleviates the complicated process of data calculations, analysis and further explanation of the data. I believe there could be a further investigation done on Mentimeter in my future projects.
