Grammarly
The Company
Grammarly was founded in 2009 by Max Lytvyn, Alex Shevchenko, and Dmytro Lider to help improve college students' spelling and grammar skills. Grammarly was completely subscription-based. Recognizing the market's need for various writing assistance, they expanded into professional and everyday communication. In 2015 the company offered a free version of the product, growing daily active users and tempting them to purchase subscriptions. The company has developed over the years to include add-ins and browser extensions. The daily active users have grown continuously, as the timeline below shows in 2020 it hit 30,000,000. Grammarly provides their product on all Android and Apple devices; therefore convenient for users to check their communication when texting or emailing. They have designed a business version of its software and a version for iPad. This version supports a custom style guide and extended collaboration. Grammarly, since its inception, has continued to grow and look for different niches in the assistant writing market that not not increase their profit but make them unique in this competitive market.
