This three week unit introduces students to the exploration of digital forms of art starting with digital collaging. Students will explore the art of digital collage by combining images, symbols, text, and textures using digital tools. They will develop skills in digital design, composition, and visual storytelling while reflecting on personal themes and contemporary issues. This unit emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and technology integration.
Students will start off the unit learning about the history of collaging and creating digital collages
Students will refine their initial collages and will be introduced to the illustration lesson.
Students will finish up their digital illustrations and be introduced to the photo manipulation project. We will end off week 3 with a big critique showing off each project.
Summative Assessments
Summative Assessment 1: Gallery Walk
Students will display their work around the classroom leaving sticky notes on the artwork with words describing their interpretation of the artwork. From there, students will be broken up into small groups to begin critique. Students must give feedback to each member of their group and describe aspects that work well in the piece.
Summative Assessment 2: Project Reflection
At the end of each project, students must write a project reflection describing their thought process behind the creation of their artwork. Students will go in detail about the programs they worked with, what they enjoyed about working with these programs, what they didn't enjoyed, and how this process could have been improved.
