Navigating the transition from high school to university can be a daunting challenge for many students. Uncertainty looms large as they grapple with the question of what they want to pursue academically and professionally. Some may enter university without a clear direction, unsure of which path to follow or how to translate their interests into a viable career. Others may have a specific career goal in mind but lack the roadmap to achieve it. Even within the university, students may find themselves adrift, unsure of how to leverage their chosen degree into meaningful opportunities in their desired field and profession. The lack of guidance and clarity can lead to frustration and anxiety as students struggle to navigate the complex terrain of higher education and career planning.
For students who has an idea of their future career path decisions, the influences often come from a variety of factors such as life expectations, authority figure influences, etc. However, students may not know the full scope of career choices their interests, passions and experiences may lead to (Student Research Foundation, 2017).
There are many career counselling services available. However, these are often based on student's interest, skillsets, educational experiences and analyzed based on traditionally data. However, it is important to understand that though post-secondary studies can directly influence students' future career, not everyone who succeed in their field has an educational, or even work experience that is directly related. People face changes and choices in life, it is important to understand there is flexibility, as long as they are passionate, gains transferable skills and understand their options.
What if a career advising service can be directly linked to LinkedIn, where real examples of degrees, careers and experiences can be analyzed to open students' horizons?
