The Organising Committee and the European Society for Textual Scholarship cordially invite members of the Society and other scholars interested in the field to participate in the Sixteenth Annual Conference of the European Society for Textual Scholarship (ESTS 2019), which will be held at the University of Málaga (Spain) on November 28th-29th, 2019.
The conference will assess, to a certain extent, the ideal of edition in the twenty-first century with the following conference theme: “Textual Scholarship in the 21st Century”. From textual criticism, where attention is paid to reconstructed versions of texts, to more recent philological theory, with a focus on individual textual witnesses, the field has travelled a long path of both theoretical and practical approaches to editing. The advent of new technologies has undoubtedly contributed to new attitudes and methods in the field. However, there is still a long way to go and many questions remain open to debate in textual scholarship:

Scholars interested in offering 20-minute papers (followed by a 10-minute discussion) must send a title and abstract (250-300 words, excluding references) in electronic format (preferably Microsoft Word) before May 31st, 2019 to the following address: ests2019@uma.es. Proposals for three-paper sessions should include a title, a chair and an introduction for the session (ca. 100 words), along with titles and abstracts for each paper. Abstracts should include the name of the author(s), affiliation, as well as telephone number, email address and needed technical support. Acceptance of proposals will be confirmed by June 2019.
