2024 Spring Workdays:

March 16, April 13, May 18 & June 15

A special thank you to all of our families who have made the garden what it is and help maintain it throughout the year. An extra special thank you to our volunteers who do not have children at Estes Hills but dedicate their time and energy to the garden. We couldn't do it without you!

Garden Update Summer 2023

Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped maintain the gardens and school grounds so far this summer.

Our pumpkin growing competition garden is progressing at a great rate thanks to the TLC of our middle school neighbor.

This summer we have donated produce to the Interfaith Community Council in Carrboro with more to come.

With all the rain the produce has been plentiful but so have the weeds. There is always work to be done in the garden please join us to help get the school grounds ready for the new school year.  See dates below for next work day.

Garden Update

Winter 2022

Thanks to the 9 volunteers who helped us Saturday and the 3, 5th grade classes who finished the work on Monday.  We were able to build 2 bamboo trellises, weed and add compost to 4 beds.  Spinach & pea seeds were planted and too many of donut holes were consumed!  The garden looks great!

We'll send out more weekend workday information through the PTA newsletter.  Thanks for all of your support!

Additional Update

Check out the start of the newest addition to the garden - The Giant Pumpkin Patch!  We have an incredible 7th grader (Jonah Kim) from Phillips Middle school that will be attempting to grow a State Fair Prize winning pumpkin by our veggie garden.  It will be a really fun journey to watch for the kids.  We'll keep parents updated through the PTA newsletter, webpage and our Facebook Page.   Shameless plug - Join our FB Page!!

Thanks for every little bit you do - it all matters!

The Estes Garden Team

Fall 2022

We had 40 Estes families help us get the garden and school grounds into the best shape it's ever been this summer. Whole Foods employees also spent time with us weeding and assisting by donating cardboard to prevent weeds. We're so excited by the transformation that's taken place!

150 lbs of food were donated through the Summer Food Distribution program, peppers and cucumbers were available at the Teacher Back To School Breakfast. Carrots were offered at the

new Kindergarten picnic for families as well. Our kids should be very proud of planting, caring

for and harvesting food to help others.

This fall, look out for signups to help with garden classes during the school day. We will also

continue having workdays on the 3rd Saturday/Sunday of the month for families that want to

share time in the garden together.

If you'd like more information or to help please reach out to joannalee222@gmail.com.

Thanks!
