The Laramie Woman's Club has been invested in literacy since its inception in 1898. Back then the club created a reading room downtown, it also created a mobile library to deliver books to remote farms so they had something to read during the long winters. The Laramie Woman's Club was also instrumental in establishing the Carnagie Library here in Laramie in 1905. The building still stands and is now used by the city planning office. Photo to the left was taken in 1942.
Today our club does innovative projects in the elementary schools of Albany County to encourage our young readers. We have supported Wyoming children's book authors to come to the schools to read their books and encourage young readers and writers. The Laramie Woman's Club makes sure that every student at these programs receives the featured book free.
The children are always excited for these special programs.
