Richard McIntosh: I have been a member of Essex SACRE since 2016 and represent the Salvation Army on the council. I am also a primary School teacher, currently working as the Headteacher of a school in Chelmsford. As part of SACRE, I support the council's remit and purpose and strongly believe in Religious Education being an essential element of a school's curriculum.
I am able to support schools who would like to find out more about the Salvation Army as a church and social care organisation. This could be through my own personal contact or by connecting schools with the appropriate department of the Salvation Army in the UK.
Peter Lawley: I represent Humanists UK on SACRE. I am a volunteer schools and colleges speaker in schools and can be booked (with other speakers) on the Humanists UK website. I have enjoyed delivering sessions to all age groups from Reception to Sixth Form. My approach is to work actively in the classroom, rather than to deliver lectures! Valuable free training and resources are available at https://humanists.uk/
With changing legal requirements for schools to deliver coverage of religion and other world views, I am very aware of the pressures schools are under and the changing focus of SACRES to guide implementation of the new National Curriculum.
I am Sidra Naeem and am the Islamic Representative on Essex SACRE since 2004. I also serve on Havering SACRE. I am a qualified teacher and have been RE coordinator in 2 CofE primary schools. I am part of two interfaith forums in Essex and Havering and do lots of voluntary work in these areas. I am also a Deputy Lieutenant & Kings Representative in Essex. I go to schools to talk about British Values as part of this role.
Voluntarily, I regularly visit schools to do lessons, workshops and assemblies on Islam, Ramadan, Eid & culture. I have also delivered teacher training in many schools to enable staff to be able to teach Islam in a fun and interactive way.
Chris Thompson, retired Local Government Officer. I am a parent of four children with experience of faith and non faith schools. I represent the Catholic Diocese of Brentwood and also have experience as a governor of a Catholic secondary school for 12 years. I offer ta SACRE my perspective as a practising Catholic but also my experience as a parent and governor of schools where faith is embedded as part of the whole educational experience.
Jon Kaye, Chairman, Harlow and Chelmsford Jewish Community. The Jewish Community is spread throughout Essex and around Harlow, Southend, Epping. Chigwell.. Loughton, Brentwood and Colchester. Rabbi Irit Shillou from the Harlow and Chelmsford Jewish Community is keen to visit schools but ideally prefers visitors to come to Harlow Synagogue as this can make a talk more appealing when children can see items regularly used in Judaism. Stan Keller, now Vice-President of the Harlow and Chelmsford Jewish Community - and a resident of Chelmsford - frequently visits schools in the area and he organises commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day each January where older students, representing local schools in Chelmsford are present.
My name is The Revd Kate Moore. I am the Team Vicar of the Epping Ministry team with a particular focus on schools, children and education. I am a retired Head Teacher. I worked at Birch CofE Primary School for 20 years as the Head and RE lead. I worked for 12 years at Chelmsford Cathedral on the ministry team, leading work on education and school visits and faith education groups. I am a member of the Diocesan Board of Education and represent the Church of England on SACRE. I have a particular interest in education and am keen that as a new RE curriculum is developed, the needs of all children are included.
