PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project aims to develop a sustainable tropical cultural library and public community center, designed as a living architectural system that integrates knowledge, nature, and social life into a unified environment. The project is not presented as a traditional library, but as an active cultural landmark that operates throughout the day and transforms reading and learning into an interactive and vibrant experience.
The design is based on the integration of three main architectural references:
Organic Architecture: to achieve a seamless integration between the building and its natural surroundings.
Japanese Minimalism: to enhance calmness, spatial clarity, and focus.
Origami Geometry: to generate folded structural forms for façades and roofs, giving the project a dynamic and functional architectural identity.
The project responds to the tropical climate through clear environmental strategies, including natural shading, cross ventilation, sustainable materials such as timber and bamboo, and green roofs. These strategies improve environmental performance while reducing reliance on mechanical systems.
A café is integrated within the building as part of the architectural fabric, acting as an active social node that connects reading and social interaction, transforming the library into a vibrant multi-use space.
The design emphasizes the creation of a “living environment” where users continuously engage in reading, studying, working, and social interaction, reinforcing the concept of the library as an active cultural space rather than a silent enclosure.
Biophilic design principles are also applied by embedding nature within the architectural spaces, creating a sustainable, calm, and human-centered experience that unifies nature, people, and architecture into one coherent system.
