Memoir Reflection
The memoir, Love thy Mother was written by me, Eryne McCown with the intentions to express a specific time where I felt like my entire life was falling apart but the Lord saved me. When writing my Memoir, I intended to express my emotions as well as the situation vividly through imagery while making the summary brief. I succeeded although there were struggles.
As it came time to choose my topic of choice for my memoir, I decided that I wanted to expand on the importance that people hold in your life; in my circumstance, I landed on my mother. To most individuals, their mother holds a strong amount of significance in their lives because moms give their children the gift of life. My mom gave me the gift of life. My memoir needs to be about the relationship I have with my mom now and the relationship I once had during a specific stage of my life. The stage when I was at the awkward age of 17 when you are not quite child but not quite an adult.
The audience that my memoir was directed to was broad but can be narrowed down to anyone facing issues with their families or struggling with their faith. I would choose this audience because my memoir is revolved around how my faith helped me fix my struggling relationship with my mother during a difficult time in my life. The essay begins with an intense and emotional story describing the situation. In order to overcome the issues, I was facing, I turned to prayer and scripture.
Before I began writing my essay, I needed to be properly prepared. To prepare, I created an outline where I stated all the key points that needed to be covered, and I went into depth with how those points affected me in the moment and how they affected present me. The depth related to small details, personal insight, and literary symbolism which helped me as the writer, understand what I needed to include in my essay.
Writing my memoir in an essay format was beneficial because the most important medium I needed to get my story across was the detailed word usage. The essay was broken up into different paragraphs which were about specific points regarding the summary while weaving in my personal thoughts for further explanations. Other mediums that I could use to add style to my essay would include pictures, further quotes from scripture, and music. These additions will create a pathological impact on the audience.
The main idea of my memoir was emotional to myself as well as the targeted audience, so I made sure to include Pathos when expressing my religious thoughts which was important. The overall story I was telling was vital to the memoir so I made sure to include as much detail as I could with imagery usage when describing what was visual, audible, and mentally going on so that the audience could understand the story and picture what was happening throughout the situation.
Although, I wanted to include as much information as possible, I found it difficult because this was an emotional point in my life that I did not want to overshare. I wanted to protect my privacy, but I wrote the essay as raw as I could in order to convey my message.
