Photo description: Active learning is a defining feature of my teaching, and all of my courses include an applied project. For four years, for example, I designed and co-led an Operations and Accounting Integration session at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective. During this session, students gained hands-on experience applying course concepts to the operations of a nonprofit organization. These photos are from a recent visit, which included a Kaizen Blitz activity focused on improving the food bank’s reclamation processes. A summary of the project work appears to the right of this text.
There is increasing pressure on businesses to pay more attention to the environmental consequences of the raw materials they source, processes they deploy, and the products and services they offer. Recognizing that operations are at the core of any sustainable enterprise, this course addresses issues related to sustainable operations in three modules: sustainability fundamentals, circular business models, and sustainability in the supply chain.
Prereq: 2320, 2321, 3230, AcctMIS 2200, 2300, and BusMHR 2292.

A highlight each year is the guest presentation from Rumpke Waste and Recycling—now in its third year. I also partner with Rumpke on research and recently received a $25,000 grant from the organization to advance work on AI-enabled curbside recycling.
