Assoc. Prof. Batur Ercan


Dr. Batur Ercan is a faculty member in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and the Biomedical Engineering Program at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. Prior to his tenure at METU, he served as an R&D engineer at Alvimedica Inc. During his postdoctoral research at Northeastern University, Dr. Ercan worked with Prof. Thomas Webster on the synthesis and biological interactions of nanomaterials. Prior to his postdoctoral journey, he held the position of a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, where he worked under the mentorship of Prof. Mehmet Toner, specializing in the microfluidic isolation of white blood cells from whole blood samples. Dr. Ercan earned his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University and his M.S. degree in Materials Engineering from Purdue University. Dr. Batur Ercan's contributions appeared in more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. His work has been published in leading journals in the field of Biomaterials, including Biomaterials, Acta Biomaterialia, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Advanced Healthcare Materials, and ACS Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
