Mobility 5: Manchester Course of CLIL

Participant: Soraya Bragado Bao

Dates: From 13th to 24th August 2018

Place: Communicate School, Manchester, UK.

The main goal of my mobility in Manchester was, on one hand, improving my English attending to English classes, and on the other hand, receiving training about CLIL methodology which is very useful when a subject is being teaching in a foreign language. My experience has been very satisfactory and enriching in both courses. Learning English has been easier due to do it in an English country because this fact has improved my oral comprehension and expresión in a notorious way. As far as CLIL Methodology concern, this course has influence in the way I usually teach my subject because I have learnt more collaborative, participatory and dynamic activities, so from now on my intention is using this method always it could be possible although I don´t use English as the main language in my classes.

In conclusion, taking part in the programme makes me think about the need we have in Spain to change the way we teach because traditionally our system has been more memoristic and mainly based on master classes.

Also I could test the CLIL Methodology by my own as the teachers used it in the English classes and in consequence I can say that the learning becomes more significative when it is more participative, communicative and competitive for example when games are used. It is true that that system slows down the pace of the classes and therefore the contents to teach decrece. This fact clashes with the imperative of fulfilling the curriculum marked by the law.

Nevertheless pros and cons, it is undeniable the influence and the high level of formation that Erasmus Programme provides the teachers and in consequence students, so I really encourage the faculty to take part and cooperate with this programme as their own training will improve the training of their own students.
