Place: NTNU and Markaplassen Skole, Trondheim, Norway.
My Job Shadowing period in Trodheim, Norway, has been divided in two Education stages completely different; I visited the NTNU and Markaplassen Secondary School.
The system in the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, is more similar than the Spanish Universitary System: students are more independent in both countries although in Norway they look more responsible. My attendance to magistral classes reminded me of what we can find in our country and the atmosphere on campus is quite similar of what we have in ours.
On the other hand, in the Secondary Education Stage we can find great differences. The daily life in the school is not much different, teachers are quite deflated by the high burocracy and the lack of support from the Administration. A lot of teaching hours and few time to organization and also few strategies to support students with difficulties. Nevertheless, the implementation of active methodologies in the classroom that reinforce students autonomy and creativity are much more developped in the Norwegian System. As a matter of fact, I believe the use of these methodologies are the key of the Education Success in this country, together with a higher motivation of students that comes from a higher social conciousness towards the importance of a Good Education.
After several observation experiences in different European countries my conclussion is that in Spain we are following the right way but we still have to get that social conciousness of confidence towards teachers work and the acknowledgment of the importance of a good education to motivate students. For that we need to bet for active methodologies specially for those students less motivated and leave appart such an academic educational system.
