During the classroom observation period at the host school, I explored how teaching and learning activities were carried out in real classroom settings. Through these observations, I was able to understand the teaching methods used by teachers, the instructional delivery process, the classroom resources that supported learning, students’ engagement during lessons, as well as assessment practices implemented by the school.
Teaching Methods
Teachers used different approaches to support students’ understanding. Lessons were often delivered through guiding questions and short discussions that encouraged students to share their ideas. In some sessions, teachers also connected the materials with real-life situations to make the lessons more meaningful. Brief explanations were still provided when needed, but they were usually followed by interactive classroom activities.
Instructional Delivery
At Ateneo de Naga Senior High School, teachers clearly explained the learning objectives at the beginning of each lesson. The materials were delivered step by step using examples that helped students follow the topic more easily. Teachers also gave opportunities for students to ask questions during the lesson. These interactions helped create two-way communication between teachers and students
Classroom Resources
The classroom learning was supported by several classroom resources that helped teachers deliver the lessons more clearly. Teachers used projectors, televisions, and presentation slides to support their explanations during the lesson. In some classes, speakers and microphones were also used to make sure the teacher’s voice could be heard clearly by all students. Whiteboards were also used to highlight important points and guide classroom discussions.
Students Engagement
Students at Ateneo de Naga Senior High School showed active participation during classroom activities. Many students responded to questions and shared their opinions during discussions. They also worked together with their classmates during group activities. This created a supportive and interactive classroom atmosphere.
Assessment Practice
Teachers used quizzes, assignments, classroom participation, and mid-term examinations to monitor students’ learning progress. Students were also given project-based tasks as part of their learning activities. During my observation period, I had the opportunity to attend the Research Congress where Grade 12 students presented their research projects. This activity showed how the school supports students in developing their research skills through authentic assessment activities.
Overall, these observations helped me understand how teaching and learning were carried out at Ateneo de Naga Senior High School and became an important reference for preparing my own lesson plan
