LAB 5 : Operation of generator backup system

ESSENTIAL SWITCH BOARD (ESB) PANEL

When the TNB supply is connected to the Essential Switch Board (ESB) panel the indicator light for the normal supply will turn on and the indicator light for the Genset supply will turn off. When the mains supply is cut off, the indicator light on the Essential Switch Board (ESB) panel for the normal supply will turn off and the indicator light for the Genset supply will turn on. Next, the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) will detect the voltage drop and send a signal to the Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) panel. Next, the normal contactor on the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) will open and the Genset contactor on the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) will close.

AUTOMATIC MAIN FAILURE (AMF) PANEL AND GENERATOR

Next, the relay on the AMF panel will send a signal to the generator. Next, the battery charger will turn on the generator.

LOW VOLTAGE LOADS

When the generator is turned on, the generator will send the supply to the low-voltage load. Low voltage loads consist of lighting systems.
