Ephesians 3:14-21
A Prayer for the Ephesians
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
God made us with restless hearts...St. Augustine said the heart of man will not rest until it rests in the LORD...Our restless heart is always searching and looking for Him...God made our hearts restless, because He loves us, and wants us to seek Him...This restless is caused by the Holy Spirit within us...The Holy Spirit lives within us so Jesus may dwell in our restless heart...Our restless heart is doing its searching and seeking and is part of our personal faith...
God could have at anytime explained everything in the Bible, so everyone would believe in Him...But He has decided not to do so...It seems He plays hide and seek...He could do a simple or complex miracle at anytime, and at any place, so all would believe...However, He wants to remain hidden and a mystique to us...He could give us more evidence of His existence at anytime...He has a reason for this...He has a reason for everything He does...He does it because He loves us... We will never take Him for granted, though this is not the only reason He hides...There must be a good or many good reasons why God does this hiding...Pascal said God gives us just the right amount of light to find Him, or just not enough light not to find Him...Seek and you shall find Him...He is after our restless heart...He want us to search with our hearts and find Him...The search part is very important...And He wants the seeking to come from our hearts...Jesus reminds of this when He says, blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God (Matthew 5:8)...He wants us to be holy, perfect, and good like Him and His Son...There are two people we cannot hide from ever in our lives...They are yourself and God...In this sense, God wants us to know who He is, but He also wants us to know who we are...
I think somehow God was still somewhat a mystique when He led Moses and His people through the desert for forty years...He was there much of the time...But I think He also remained hidden somehow to His people...I also think, God remained somewhat of a mystique when Jesus walked the earth, (Jesus) and talked constantly of God...Jesus loved to talk about God...The listeners would have heard more truths and things about God from Jesus, than any group of people, had ever heard before about God...
If every man, woman, and child knew God existed, maybe we would stop seeking Him...Our faith might be less, if we failed to search for Him...The Bible never describes Him as obvious...He is this mystique and a mystery...The curious restless heart might be no more...If He was obvious and always with us never leaving us, there might be less faith in the world...This seeking is very, very important...This seeking is a part of faith...
Jesus' love is long and deep and high and deep...It is very difficult to grasp Jesus' love because it surpasses our knowledge...But our heart feels this love, and that is why it is and remains restless... We are not perfect, holy, and good like His Son...Jesus power is at work in us through the Holy Spirit and makes our heart yearn through this restlessness for Him...
