Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus Came for Sinners
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
We Are Saved By God's Grace
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
God is Full of Grace and sent His Son to save us from our own sins...And this is because we are sinners...Jesus said, "For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”...Jesus makes it very clear that He came to earth to "help" sinners...
Author Philip Yancey wrote something about this, "Grace does not depend on what we have done for God but rather what God has done for us...Ask people what they must do to get to heaven and most reply, "Be good."...Jesus' stories contradict that answer...All we must do is cry, "Help!""...
