For this topic we will explore wildfires and how we know what we know from Earth Observing satellites.
Sample lesson plan:
Both formats benefit from an online interactive online activity (below) that works with the EO-Pi unit but as a standalone tool. The tool provides an opportunity to process some real EO data from the Sentinel-2 satellite instrument.

Earth at night
Below is a wonderful movie published by NASA Goddard.
In the movie they present data about nightlights. These are the lights observable on the dark side of Earth. The data are from the EO satellite called VIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership.
Mostly, what you will see is the product of electric lights that map out human settlements across the world but you will also see lights generated by wildfires. The movie talks about wildfires over Australia but they burning brightly over many parts of the globe.
