Air pollution karma

Air pollution refers to quantities of atmospheric gases and particles over and above those values determined exclusively by natural processes. It is also associated with harmful effects to human health and vegetation (including agricultural crops).

In this short presentation we present material to explain a bit more about sources of air pollution.

The movie below sets the scene. It shows the emission and atmospheric transport of particles. These particles are lofted into the atmosphere by winds (sea salt and desert dust) by strong thermal heating (wildfires), and from the combustion of fossil fuel.

What do you see?

The movie shows the atmospheric movement of particles from different sources:

Blue = sea salt

Green = wildfires

White = fossil fuel

Red/orange = desert dust

Below are some slides that explain why particulate matter (PM) pollution should matter to you and what you can do to reduce your exposure.
