Hybrid (virtual and on-site) presentation at the RVCA Building, 3889 Rideau Valley Drive, Manotick

Presented by General Manager, Sommer Casgrain-Robertson.

The Rideau River is 146 km long; the watershed covers 4,200 sq km and is 23% wetland - one of the Earth’s hardest working habitats. The RVCA, celebrating 60 years of conservation in 2026, operates 11 conservation areas and has planted more than 8 million native trees across Eastern Ontario since 1984. The RVCA is now facing a significant change as the province prepares to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into 9 regional ones, to be overseen by the Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency which is a new agency under the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. On February 1, the RVCA will amalgamate with its neighbours (the South Nation, Mississippi and Raisin Region Conservation Authorities) to form the St. Lawrence River Regional Conservation Authority. 

The presentation will be followed by a brief tour of Ottawa’s first gold-level, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building which was constructed in 2006.

Appointed RVCA General Manager in 2013, Sommer brings a wealth of history, expertise and experience.  She has recently been selected as the new Project Executive overseeing the formation of the St. Lawrence River Regional Conservation Authority and will become its first Chief Administrative Officer.
