The problem that exists at the University of Waterloo revolves around a gap in knowledge. This brochure serves as a guide to explain how the lack of knowledge in sustainability affects all students and faculty at the University. While sustainability is a large focus of the curriculum in the faculty of environment, there is a larger role that it can play in the other faculties moving forward.
It has been identified as a problem that sustainability is not a focus in the other faculties because in today’s world we have an opportunity to implement interdisciplinary learning, and it is not being taken. The problem not only revolves around the difficulty of changing curricula, but of changing the social view of sustainability and education.
To achieve our goals we hope to make it clear that sustainability education is valuable to other faculties, and can be applied to many aspects of everyday teaching.
We have identified the problem surrounding the lack of information and desire to attack the issue of the lack of general awareness of the advantages of sustainability education, as well as the lack of implementation of sustainability education at the University of Waterloo.
