Enslaved is an original story about two families, one a prominent white family that helped start colonial America, continuing to this day to help shape society and holding positions of power - even the White House, and the other, the slave women who became their secret wives and their families, some of whom led extraordinary lives, most of whom were forgotten and lived out their lives in secrecy until today little is known of the truth. They are intertwined throughout American history and their progeny lives on, Terri's own son being one of them, having made the discovery by following a hint on Ancestry and seeing it actually play out on his father's side of the family tree last year. After months of investigation and discussion they finally accepted the truth, and it is an accepted fact by many other genealogists and historians.
Terri has been digesting and considering the inglorious reality of what that would be like and decided to share the story with the world. It isn't a pretty story, but love and passion ruled the lives of these people from the past. Some persons depicted herein have been deliberately created to closely resemble those who lived it out all those many years ago, and others were devised solely from the writers mind with an understanding of the times and places they came from. Names have been changed, but times and places were kept much as it happened. It is, after all, a work of historical fiction with the truth laced throughout, and it is up to you, dear reader, to determine - or just take it for what it's worth, which the writer hopes is a lesson that all of us deserve dignity and a right to personal freedom.
