EnrichCS: Advancing Computing Research Through Service-Learning Innovation and Research Collaboration
Benedict College - University of South Carolina
Benedict College - University of South Carolina
Benedict College (BC) and the University of South Carolina (UofSC) are proud to work together to establish a mechanism for a long-term collaboration to enhance computing research. This will be done by reimagining a service-learning platform for the Computer Science (CS) program at Benedict College (BC), an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), and establishing a mechanism for a long-term academic/industry collaboration to train and prepare undergraduate students for computing research, including AI/machine learning related areas. These include redesigning a standardized and user-friendly service-learning platform for CS faculty, fostering academic/industry collaborations, implementing a dual mentor system for students, streamlining project management procedures, and aligning service-learning projects with relevant course and program-level student learning outcomes.
Would you like some volunteers to work on your project? Let us know your needs, and we’ll assist with recruiting and managing students, so you can focus on assigning tasks and achieving your project goals.
Benedict College requires students to complete 120 service-learning hours for graduation. We aim to leverage these hours to create a sustainable academic-industry collaboration that trains and prepares undergraduate students for computing research. Students can earn up to 20 service-learning hours per semester through this initiative.
