Students will work in teams on a service-learning project under the guidance of an assigned faculty mentor. The project should contribute to community engagement, applied learning, or problem-solving in a relevant field.
Students may choose between two options:
Faculty-Assigned Project
Students may work on a project proposed by a faculty mentor. The mentor will introduce the project, outline expectations, and guide the team throughout the project process.
Student-Initiated Project
Students may propose their own service-learning project. In this case, students must:
Form a team of up to five members.
Discuss the project idea with their team and faculty mentor.
Seek feedback and approval from the faculty mentor before starting the project.
Students are encouraged to regularly consult their faculty mentor for guidance and support during project development and implementation.
Students are expected to:
Coordinate weekly meetings with their faculty mentor (via Zoom or in person).
Work collaboratively with their team members and contribute actively to the project.
Submit weekly progress reports to the faculty mentor.
Each weekly report should briefly include the following:
Working Time
Describe the time spent working on the project.
Example: 8/10/2025, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Planned Tasks
Describe the tasks or activities you intended to complete during the week.
Actual Progress
Summarize the work completed, progress made, or outcomes achieved.
Plan for the Next Step
Outline the goals or activities planned for the following week.
Questions, Concerns, or Support Needed
List any questions, challenges, or assistance needed from the faculty mentor.
By the designated deadline, each team must submit a final presentation (PowerPoint or similar format) that includes the following sections:
Project Title
Names of Team Members and Faculty Mentor
Introduction
Overview of the project and its purpose.
Motivation / Significance
Explanation of the importance of the project and its potential impact on the community or field.
Methods / Approach / Activities
Description of the activities conducted, strategies used, and the process followed.
Results / Outcomes
Presentation of outcomes, results, or impacts. This may include images, charts, data, developed materials, or project products.
Conclusion / Reflection
Summary of key findings and lessons learned through the service-learning experience.
Each team will present their project as a group for approximately 5–10 minutes (In person or video recording).
Faculty mentors play an important role in guiding students and supporting the success of service-learning projects. Based on the nature of the project, mentors will provide appropriate guidance, feedback, and evaluation.
Faculty mentors are also responsible for assessing student participation and awarding service-learning hours based on students’ engagement and performance.
Faculty mentors are expected to:
Meet with student teams weekly (via Zoom or in person) to discuss progress and provide guidance.
Review students’ weekly reports and provide constructive feedback.
Support project development by helping students refine their goals, methods, and activities.
Monitor student progress and participation throughout the project.
Evaluate students’ work and record service-learning hours based on their contributions.
Review and provide feedback on final reports or presentations to help students finalize their submissions.
Submit the final list of students and their earned service-learning hours according to program requirements.
