How To Get Started Playing USTA League Tennis
With more than 300,000 players taking part each year, USTA League is the country’s largest adult competitive tennis league. It’s a great way to stay active, improve your tennis game, and make new friends. If you love tennis, you’ll love USTA League and being part of a team.
Let’s Get Started!
All new players must self-rate to obtain an NTRP rating. Once you have an NTRP rating, you are ready to find a league and start playing! Why do I need to self-rate? It’s required to join a team and it helps you play with and against players at or near the same skill level. The self-rate process is FREE! Find the self-rate button on the USTA League home page in TennisLink to get started.
I Have My NTRP, What’s Next?
Joining a team can be as simple as filling out the Need A Team form for the USTA league you want to join. There’s a Need A Team form for each of the six USTA leagues offered in Eno. Once you submit this form your information is added to the league’s Available Player List (APL)and published on Eno CTA’s website. Captains recruiting can view submissions on the APL and invite players directly to join their teams. Are you guaranteed a spot on a team? Sadly no, but we do our best to help players find teams and the key is submitting this form 1 month BEFORE team registration opens for the league. See the dates below in the chart.
Want to ensure you play? Round up a group of your tennis friends and captain a team! If you don’t know enough players to form a team we can help with players requesting teams on the Available Player List (APL). Captaining a team is fun and rewarding. Each league offers a New Captain’s Meeting with tips and suggestions for your first season. You can also request a team mentor who guides you throughout the season answering your questions about creating line-ups, score entries, and more.

It is recommended to purchase or renew your membership after you have received an invitation to join a team.
What Days Or Evenings Will My USTA Matches Play?
The days and evenings of play for each of the six USTA leagues may be found here. Players typically won’t play in every single match. For example in the 18 & Over 2.5 level of the USTA Adult Spring League, five players are needed for each match. The format is 1 singles court and 2 doubles courts. Teams in this age group and level may have as many as 15 players on their roster (most have 10-12 players). If you have a conflict on one or more match dates, you simply let your captain know well ahead of the scheduled match date you aren’t available to play.
How Much Does It Cost to Play?
The league fee for each of the six USTA leagues is $25. Your USTA membership $44 is a one-time fee and this covers all USTA leagues you participate in for one year. Public court fees are divided among team members and depending on the level and the number of players on a team average $15 p/p for each season.
