The Department of English celebrated Literature Day on 20th May. The event was designed to inspire the students to come forward with their ideas on literature by portraying various  fictional characters on stage. Students were also encouraged to dress accordingly for the occasion to make the event more vibrant and appealing. Students of all the semesters enacted skits or appeared as solo characters on stage, The teachers of the department also presented a short skit which featured a medley of Shakespearean soliloquies. Number of participants: 70 .

 The department hosted Dr Somjyoti Mridha Of North Eastern Hill University for a special lecture entitled “Translations in India, India in Translation: A Literary Perspective” on 2.12.22 through google meet. The online event was streamed for the students on the screen of the College Auditorium(Ishwarchandra Sabhgriha). Dr Mridha spoke the history of translation studies in India and how crucial it was to translate regional texts to English. He also discussed the problems a translator might face in translating a regional text to English owing to the unique inflections and nuances of a language. The talk ended with an interactive session and a vote of thanks.A total of 60 students participated in the seminar.

The department organized a lecture by Dr Parjonyo Sen of Deshbandhu College for Girls on 20.12.22.The talk was entitled “ The Himalayas and Herge: The Visual Rendering of Tibet”. Dr Sen focused on the genre of graphic literature and the conventions of the comic book and its visual paradigms before going on to discuss Tintin in Tibet as a singular text in the Tintin series by Herge. The talk was accompanied by a powerpoint presentation which featured valuable pictures from archives and travelogues to further emphasize the geography of Tibet and its unique cultural ethos including the Tibetan belief in the mythical snowman or the yeti which forms a crucial component of the text. The talk was enlivened by a vibrant interactive session. Number of participants in the programme : 50.
