Event Coordinators:

Dr. Melissa Merlo (Vice Rector Academic)
MA Maria Luz Gomez (Director of the Language Department)
Dr. David Ramirez
The inauguration of the event started with a heartfelt welcome from Dr. Melissa Merlo, our Vice Rector Academic, who reminded everyone of the importance of embracing diversity and understanding multiculturalism.
She spoke about how this event aims to raise awareness of the value of multiculturalism and promote a culture of respect and appreciation for people’s unique cultural contributions.
Dr. Merlo also emphasized the need to understand the human rights, laws, and policies that support diversity and multilingualism, making this fair an incredible opportunity to celebrate and learn from one another.
LENGUA Y CULTURA TAWAHKA: DESCUBRIENDO NUESTRAS RAÍCES
We also had a special guest, Dr. David Ramírez, who’s currently doing his master’s in Mexico. He gave an amazing presentation called “Lengua y Cultura Tawahka: Descubriendo Nuestras Raíces.”
Dr. Ramírez shared so much about the Tawahka people—their origins, food, location here in Honduras, beliefs, and even their genealogy. He also stressed how crucial it is to keep the Tawahka language alive since it’s at risk of disappearing as people move away from their region because of the tough living conditions.
Lineth Escalante and Tomás Monge officially announced that the Multicultural and Plurilingual Fair had begun! They invited everyone to explore the different countries, soak in their cultures, and enjoy the experience.
Oh, and here’s the fun part, you’ll get a special "passport" that you can stamp every time you visit a new country’s booth.
Let the adventure begin!
