عقد قسم اللغة الإنجليزية وآدابها مؤتمره السنوي للعام الجامعي ٢٠٢٤-٢٠٢٥ اليوم السبت 26 ابريل 2025 وذلك ضمن فعاليات أسبوع العلم بالكلية

بدأ اليوم بحفل إستقبال للضيوف بالقسم في الحادية عشرة والنصف صباحاً ثم الإنتقال إلى مسرح الكلية

بدأ المؤتمر في الواحدة ظهراً وتضمن الفعاليات التالية:

كلمة أ.د/ أسماء زعزع وكيل الكلية لشئون التعليم والطلاب. وقد قامت أ.د/ أسماء زعزع بتقديم شهادة شكر وتقدير إلى أ.م.د/ رضوى رمضان. الشهادة موجهة إلى أعضاء القسم ورئيس مجلس القسم وذلك لتعاونهم ومجهوداتهم في دعم مسيرة الكلية وتحقيق أهدافها.

Discover the Magic Behind:

Hello everyone

Today we announce the publication of the new issue of “The Self” magazine that stands as the concrete example of how academia can transform students’ studies of language and literature into a product that celebrates both creativity and critical thinking.  Amazingly the stories behind the launch of the second issue exceed the stories told inside the issue itself. The second issue of “The Self” witnesses a long journey of challenges, acts of generosity and happy moments. One of the challenges met by the editorial board is that the production of this issue was hindered several times because of the Covid-19 pandemic which negatively affected the communication between the editorial board and the students for a long time.

As for the happy moments, the second issue witnessed progress in many ways. First of all, a whole section is dedicated to honor the memory of one of the pillars of the Department of English Language and Literature and this is Prof. Latifa al-Zayyat. The philosophy of this section was meant to connect the young generation of students with their matriarchal ancestor in different ways. They were asked, for instance, to read some of her literary production and analyze it in the light of their study as literature students. Sometimes, they brilliantly performed their task and other times they misinterpreted what was subtly expressed by the author. The suggestion here is to interview Prof. Mona Wahsh who can thoroughly explain what is hidden because of the symbolic nature of the text and perceived it within the social, political and historical contexts. Another way of bringing our students together with Prof. al-Zayyat was to interview some of her contemporaries (colleagues and students: Prof. Magda Hassabelnaby, Dr. Nadia Abdel-Latif, Dr Manal Megahid, Dr Dina Soliman) which proved to be very effective in bringing her memory alive through their testimonies. We were very blessed by their acts of generosity sharing with us very precious memories with Prof. Latifa al-Zayyat together with sharing photos from their archives exclusively dedicated to our magazine. In addition, a poem is written by our super talented student, Maria Wahba, dedicated to Prof. Latifa al-Zayyat and a drawing was painted by our similarly talented student, Maryam Amin, inspired by her novel, The Open Door. A portrait is even drawn by our graduate, Nada Haggag, for Prof. Latifa al-Zayyat in both her young and old ages.

The artistry in this issue is truly manifested on different levels. The usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in this issue is deployed to design the cover page as well as some of the separators inside the magazine in addition to the images attached to the different articles. It is meant to extend the students’ imagination to freely express their innovative ideas using technology. For example, Monad Rafat designed a cover page that reflected the free soul of Prof. Latifa al-Zayyat in an innovative manner. Besides more space, compared to the first issue, is dedicated to the students as the mission of the Art Director of the magazine was assigned to Maryam Amin; (Education section), who previously proved her talent several times in the sphere of drawing and painting. Furthermore, the section “Prove your Talent” included three new parts; the first one is dedicated to a new genre of merging photography and storytelling. The second part is entitled “Inspired By” and is dedicated to the drawings of the students inspired by the literary texts that they study during the four academic years. The third part of this section is dedicated to the talents of our students who received awards of creative writing competitions in the English department and in Ain Shams University competing with students from the different English departments in the faculties of al-Alsun, Education, Arts, and the Faculty of Women. We honor their talents by publishing their works: The Fabric has Something to Say; a short story by Salma Mansour and “To My Dearest Shakespeare” and “In the Name of Hope”; two poems by Maria Wahba in this special issue.

We, the team of the magazine, really appreciate our readership and aspire that the magazine succeeded in presenting the true voice of our students and provided an authentic representation of the unlimited potentials of their artistry and creativity. I totally believe that the magazine created a space of self-expression, self-realization and contributed to the building and rebuilding of our students’ personalities.
