Our survey results showed us factual evidence on how women are oppressed in today’s society. Having women and men ages 18 to 75 take this survey gave us varied results and displayed evidence for the reality of oppression in women today. The survey results enlightened us on just how exploited and mistreated women feel in our current world. We hope that our project and research bring awareness to the daily struggle of being a woman in America.
In our survey, we tackled subjects such as women's portrayal in media, gender roles in the workplace, and struggles homeless women face. Our graphs displayed how women are oppressed in our society whether that be in the workplace, media, or in homeless women.
Limitations:
Since we could only collect responses from those aged 18+, we could not get data from a younger generation that might have had a different understanding of the topic. The survey was only open for 12 days. This is not a long time, and we would have been able to get more respondents if it was available for longer.
Next Steps:
Going forward, researchers should investigate why women are still being oppressed. In the article “Wide Partisan Gaps in U.S. Over How Far the Country Has Come on Gender Equality” by Horowitz, Juliana et. al. remind us that
“...men and women have different perspectives on how far the country has come in achieving gender equality…” (Horowitz).
The United States had its first female Vice President elected into office in 2021. As history has proven, it will be a long time before humanity can become equal. We need to continue to research and educate society to balance out the scales.
