Hello, my name is Acadia Nicolson. In the following podcast, I will be discussing ageism in the workplace. The overall topic for my group is women's oppression in today’s society. I am focusing on gendered ageism in the workplace. Ageism in the workplace is normally directed toward older generations, but as I have personally experienced, younger generations can experience oppression in this area as well. I am a 21-year-old female and I work as an accountant. There have been many instances where men have ‘climbed the ladder’ before me. One instance that comes to mind is, a coworker of mine is a 22-year-old man, who recently got a two-dollar raise. He even said that he thought he didn't deserve it and that it should go to me. Our employer responded with “my decision is final”. The goal of this podcast is to educate myself and others on ageism in the workplace. The issues stemming from this are lack of confidence, women moving up in their careers, and unequal treatment. I will be covering these main issues by citing scholarly articles on the topic.
