ความหมายของการอ่าน
การอ่านจับใจความ คือ การอ่านเพื่อมุ่งหาสาระสำคัญหรือใจความสำคัญของเรื่องนั้นๆ
ใจความสำคัญ คือ ส่วนที่สำคัญที่สุดของเนื้อเรื่อง มีเนื้อหาครอบคลุม ทำให้ทราบว่าเรื่องนั้นมีใครทำอะไร ที่ไหน อย่างไร หนึ่งย่อหน้าหรือหนึ่งตอนจะมีใจความสำคัญเพียงหนึ่งเดียวเท่านั้น
ใจความรอง คือ ส่วนของประโยคต่างๆ ที่ช่วยขยายหรือส่งเสริมเนื้อหาของใจความสำคัญให้เกิดความเข้าใจมากขึ้น ในหนึ่งย่อหน้าหรือหนึ่งตอนอาจมีใจความรองหลายๆ ใจความหรือหลายประโยคก็ได้
บทสนทนา หรือ dialogue คือคำพูดของตัวละครที่ใช้โต้ตอบกันในเรื่อง บทสนทนานับเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญของเรื่องบันเทิงคดีได้ประการหนึ่ง เพราะช่วยให้ผู้อ่านได้ทราบถึงแนวคิดของผู้แต่ง ทราบถึงบุคลิกลักษณะของตัวละคร ข้อขัดแย้งระหว่างตัวละคร ภูมิหลังและรายละเอียดต่าง ๆ ได้ โดยผู้แต่งไม่ต้องบรรยายหรือพรรณนาความให้ยืดยาว นอกจากนี้ยังทำให้ผู้อ่านได้รับความเพลิดเพลินไปพร้อมกันด้วย

Pim : Good morning, Nit. How’s everything? สวัสดีนิด เป็นยังไงบ้าง
Nit : Great , thanks. And you? สบายดีขอบคุณ แล้วเธอล่ะ
Pim : Pretty good, thank you. สบายดีขอบคุณ

Pam : Good afternoon, Joy. Long time no see.
สวัสดีจอย ไมได้เจอกันตั้งนาน
How are you going? สบายดีไหม
Joy : So So, thanks. And you? ก็อย่างนั้นแหละ แล้วเธอล่ะ
Pam : I’m not O.K.. I have a cold. ฉันไมคอยสบายเป็นไข้หวัด
Joy : Sorry to hear that. เสียใจด้วยนะ
Get well soon. หายไวๆนะ
