There are 4 major writing/composition projects in this class:
THE UNESSAY | THE RHETORICAL ANALYSIS | THE PROFESSIONAL EMAIL | THE FINAL PROJECT/REFLECTION
In addition to these assignments, you will be asked to compose a variety of texts in response to our course objectives. Sometimes these will be recorded in our COURSE MILESTONE documents, sometimes these will be done via Discussions in Perusall, or spontaneously in class or on Google Classroom.
Grading: Grading at COD is based on a flat A/B/C/D/F scale. Grades will be given as a percentage (%), where 90% and above is an ‘A’, 80-89% a ‘B’, and so on. Each project is worth the following amount of your overall total in the class:
MILESTONES = 40% | ESSAY = 10% | RHETORICAL ANALYSIS = 10% | PROFESSIONAL EMAIL = 10% | FINAL PROJECT/REFLECTION = 30%
You should be able to calculate your own grade using the assignment percentages, but you can freely ask me at any point in the semester how you’re performing.
In accordance with current IAI standards, writing assignments for the class must include "a minimum of 4 revised, college-level essays [totaling] a minimum of 5,000 total words across all finished formal writing required within the course [including] at least one essay of 1,250 words or more."
We will reach this number not by composing traditional essays, but instead by crafting reflective pieces which comment upon the writing assignments above. Using our COURSE MILESTONES, and by crafting attendant essays to these projects, we will far exceed this word count requirement.
