Today we will be looking at an article by Rachel Gutman titled “You Might Want to Wait to Get a Booster Shot”. We will put this article under a rhetorical lens for analysis. Finding out what the author's main point is and what she wants us to understand after reading this article. You can see many rhetorical moves in this article. We will see how she cautions different audiences to react to the COVID vaccine booster shots, not only through her wording, but also the rhetorical moves that she makes to both encourage and make you feel uncertain of the conclusion. We will see how the author uses expert sources, and builds up different levels of credibility to accentuate her points. Take some time to listen and you’ll be able to see how Rachel Gutman is an expert in knowing her audience, presenting the necessary information to that audience and, through her writing, portray the emotions she wants her audience to feel toward the topic of booster shots. After listening be sure to read the original article in The Atlantic and educate yourself on the current climate around booster shots.
