Part of the work this semester will be using your voice and choice to collaboratively assemble the course "textbook” or the Assemblage of Knowledge for this course. You will research, select, pitch, evaluate, and question our course readings, supported through the process by a series of required deliverables.
Materials will be available via the course's Canvas site or via BC Libraries. Readings will likely derive from Keywords for American Cultural Studies, The Journal of Popular Culture, The Journal of American Culture, Studies in Popular Culture, Harper's Magazine, The Nation, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic. Additionally, students will be encouraged to review the listings on the Popular Culture Association’s (PCA) Literary, Film, & Electronic Awards page and Journal Awards page.
We will also read selections from Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric. You do not need to purchase this (unless you would like to!).
Zines for Zine Show and Tell on October 20, 2022 (expect to spend ~$20-30 purchasing zines). Noël will provide you with some ideas for where you can find zines to purchase.
