At least three points during the semester: beginning of the year, mid-semester, and at the end of the semester, you will write a metacognitive letter. In this letter, you will think deeply about and communicate your areas of strength and growth as a writer, connecting your thoughts to the work you are doing in this course. These letters are opportunities to conduct a self-evaluation, as well as to synthesize your learning in this course. You should consider how your work is evolving, what you are learning, and where specifically in your work you can point to examples of this.
These metacognitive letters serve a few purposes: an opportunity for you to communicate for yourself the learning that you are doing in this course, an ongoing dialogue between between us (you, the student, and me, the teacher) about your learning and your experience in the course.
Three times during the semester- once at the beginning, once in the middle, and once at the end. For each, you’ll write me a short letter reflecting on your work for and engagement in the course.
