Engineering Minds in Motion (EM in M) is a club dedicated to fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and educational environment where students can delve into the diverse world of engineering. Our mission is to educate students on the various engineering disciplines and provide a clear understanding of what engineering truly entails. We envision this high school club as a launchpad for aspiring engineers, equipping them with the knowledge and inspiration needed to pursue successful careers and become innovators who contribute positively to society. Through our efforts, we aim to empower students with a deep appreciation and understanding of the many facets of engineering.
Examples of Meeting Activities:
Less than 30 minutes:
Pick a real-world engineering problem and brainstorm solutions in small groups
Listen to guest speakers talk about their work and provide real-world insights and career inspiration
Build a mini machine using simple materials like straws, pipe cleaners, and tape in a short time frame
Take apart a simple electronic device and analyze how it works
Participate in a short coding/CAD challenge on a platform like Onshape or HackerRank
Over 30 minutes:
Develop prototypes for a project idea using basic materials like cardboard, foam core, and craft supplies
Participate in professional workshops on a specific engineering skill, like 3D printing basics, soldering techniques, or using CAD software
Pick a controversial engineering topic (e.g., self-driving cars, space exploration) and research and debate opposing viewpoints
Present an engineering topic you're passionate about (e.g., famous inventors, groundbreaking technologies, future engineering challenges)
Field trips to various engineering companies
