Ways to Engage with
New Mexico County & Tribal Health Councils
Welcome! This site serves as a resource to fellow academics, scholars, clinicians etc. who wish to pursue meaningful community-engaged relationships to improve health outcomes in New Mexico through health councils. We do have plans to modify this resource in the future to accommodate more audiences. Needless to say this is a work-in-progress.
You may be wondering 'What is a health council'? In HB 137, health councils are named Comprehensive Community-Based Health Planning Councils that work with the community to assess community health, identify health priorities, work with community partners to identify solutions and resources to address those identified priorities and advise local government on health policy issues. Health councils also provide opportunities for folks to network, collaborate, and engage with community members to address health priorities.
Why should you engage with health councils? Health councils have representation from within their respective counties and tribes/Nations/Pueblos and provide opportunities to network and even get perspective on various projects/studies from the community. Engaging and developing relationships with health councils ensures health priorities, work, projects, etc. are addressed in ways that are meaningful and efficient to all involved.
On our website please find the purpose of creating this resource, background information on health councils, and tips for presenters.
