Grades

At the end of the course, you will receive a grade of A, B, C, or NC (No Credit). You must earn a C- or higher in ENG 202 to satisfy the General Education requirement for Area A2: Written English Communication.

At the beginning of the term, you will choose which Learning Experience that you want to work towards. Please carefully read the requirements for each Learning Experience, think about how much you want to put into this class, and decide what you want to get out of the class.

If you do not agree with your grade, you will have the opportunity at the end of the term to present me with evidence that demonstrates why you deserve a different grade. For example, if you completed the criteria for the Silver Learning Experience, you can present specific evidence and clear explanation to petition for a "B+" grade or even an "A-" grade.

Gold Learning Experience

What you get:

Strong community with your instructor and peers
Abundant practice in critical reading and writing skills
Eligible to request a personalized letter of recommendation
An "A" grade in ENG 202

How to get it:

5 Stars on all Major Assignments
90% or higher in Learning Activities
90% or higher Attendance (Absent 0 - 2 classes)
90% or higher Participation

Silver Learning Experience

What you get:

Developing community with your instructor and peers
Regular practice in critical reading and writing skills
Eligible to request a general letter of recommendation
A "B" grade in ENG 202

How to get it:

At least 4 Stars on all Major Assignments
80% or higher in Learning Activities
80% or higher Attendance (Absent 3 - 5 classes)
80% or higher Participation

Bronze Learning Experience

What you get:

Some community with your instructor and peers
Some practice in critical reading and writing skills
A "C" grade in ENG 202

How to get it:

At least 3 Stars on all Major Assignments
70% or higher in Learning Activities
70% or higher Attendance (Absent 6 - 8 classes)
70% or higher Participation

Uh, oh... Let's talk

What you get:

A "No Credit" (NC) grade in ENG 202
- This means your admission to SFSU will be delayed at least one semester and you will have to retake ENG 202 in the fall

How to get it:

One or more Major Assignments is missing;
- OR one or more Major Assignments has less than 3 Stars
Less than 70% in Learning Activities
Less than 70% Attendance (Absent 9 or more classes)
Less than 70% Participation
