Location

ENCODS 2018 will take place at Akademie Berlin-Schmöckwitz, right outside Berlin’s busy center, to create a retreat-like atmosphere in a welcoming, green environment. The meeting is designed to be all-inclusive, thus allowing participants and speakers to concentrate their full energy and attention on the main purpose of ENCODS: getting together to discuss, interact and learn from each other!

How to get there

On July 5 a shuttle service will be in place between the train station Berlin-Grünau and the conference hotel Akademie Berlin-Schmöckwitz, so you only need to get to Berlin-Grünau by yourself.

How to get to Berlin-Grünau train station (trains S85, S8):

• 40 mins train ride from Berlin main station
• 20 mins train ride (S8, S85) from Berlin Ostkreuz
• 20 mins bus ride (163) from Berlin Schönefeld airport (SXF)

To check out connections, use either Google maps or the website of the local public transport. From Berlin-Grünau there will be two shuttles leaving, one at 8:00 and one at 8:40 a.m. Please make sure to sign up for the shuttle you want to take in the survey we emailed you. Obviously you are free to come to the hotel by yourself as well, for advice on the public transport routes, check the section below (July 4).

How to find the shuttle:

• The shuttle will be waiting in the Park-and-Ride parking lot. At Grünau station, just take the main exit and turn right, then you should probably see it already (white bus).

On July 4 (if you arrive a day in advance) you will have to make your way to the conference venue Akademie Berlin-Schmöckwitz by yourself. Here are a few hints that should help you along the way: The bus stop next to the conference hotel is called Berlin Schmöckwitzwerder (yes, german can be difficult).

If you are coming from Berlin city center and check Google maps or the website of the local public transport, most likely one of 2 routes will be proposed to you:

via Zeuthen (train S8):

• take the train(s) from Berlin city center until Zeuthen
• in Zeuthen take the bus 733 to Schmöckwitzwerder

via Königswusterhausen (trains RE2, RB22, RB36, S46):

• take the train(s) (RE2) from Berlin city center until Königswusterhausen
• in Königswusterhausen take the bus 733 to Schmöckwitzwerder
• If you switch in Königswusterhausen, be aware that there are 2 bus stops, one on each side of the station! You have to go to the one on the back of the station! Coming from the train tracks follow the signs in the direction Track 2/3 or "Storkower Straße", this should lead you to the correct bus stop.

Coming from Schönefeld Airport (SXF) the easiest connection is the bus 734, which only runs every 60 min but takes you directly to the hotel at Berlin Schmöckwitzwerder. If you arrive late, check whether it's still running!

From Tegel Airport (TXL) you will have a long journey unfortunately. There are different routes, our suggestion would be to take the bus TXL until Hauptbahnhof (main station), switch there to a train and take one of the above routes, either via Zeuthen or via Königswusterhausen. But there a plenty of options, check Google Maps!
